The woman found a sense of calm and relaxation in her last mind experiment – The Paradox of Pain – her realizations brought her great peace, relieving her from the burden of constantly questioning the rightness of each action.
She was very satisfied with the previous thought experiment in which she had engaged herself.
Am I in the right place?
However, there remained a lingering question about the concept of place. The woman often felt that she wasn’t quite in the right place, despite feeling a sense of purpose and doing the right things. She reflected on past experiences where she believed that different choices would have led to better outcomes. This raised an intriguing point—do humans have the capacity to make wrong choices?
This aspect troubled her because she observed similar instances in nature. Animals sometimes find themselves in areas with a limited food supply, leading to starvation. They could have been better off in a different location where their survival would be easier. Similarly, certain plants may find themselves in places where they struggle to grow due to excessive shade from larger trees. Would it not have been better if the seed had fallen in a different spot? However, she also considered that limited food availability regulates animal populations naturally. And the smaller tree does not resist patiently waiting to grow bigger. It embraces its place until the time comes when the big trees will die and provide nourishment to its roots.
Likewise, when there is an abundance of animals, could it be that the high rate of reproduction during certain periods serves a purpose in the evolution of species? In some cases, this is indeed evident.
Nature, in its own way, utilizes and takes care of these seemingly imbalances, which might not be imbalances at all, but a way to meaningfully balance the whole.
The aspects of nature might not consciously consider these factors—it simply is. It does not question the system, and perhaps it is not even aware of it. But does that truly matter? Would it be better if they were aware of it? In truth, she doubted that was the case. Everything flows naturally, finding its own balance.
Perhaps our attachment to maintaining the status quo is the source of our discomfort or our fear of being in the wrong place, having made the wrong choice. Since we do have time consciousness, we can fear what might happen in the future and envision many negative scenarios, something animals seem not to have. But it does not have to make us fear—though seemingly it does.
Are we an integral part of Nature?
So, she decided to take on the hypothesis that we humans are also an integral part of nature and function within the same rhythm. If that is true, can we be in the wrong place when no other part of nature seems to have this ability?
As the woman contemplated nature as a whole, taking on more and more examples of how all is connected and meaningfully serving the whole, she saw the bigger picture—how everything fits together in harmony. She recognized the beauty of natural regulation and development. Everything was in its right place. It was perfectly okay.
What if we humans could also adapt to this truth?
However, consciously choosing a challenging place remained a dilemma for her. Avoiding this seemed to be better and more natural. Yet, she reasoned that perhaps we might consciously choose such situations because we desire success or even growth on its own. That, she concluded, was a valid reason. If she knew the outcome was worthwhile, she was even ready to take a rough road to achieve what is of value to her.
So, challenges were not really the problem. We even enjoy challenges. It was the fear of making the wrong choice, doubt, feeling unsure, fear of regret, or even fear of guilt when things might turn out differently than expected – that was her problem.
Even though she was very impressed by her insights, she wanted to refocus her thoughts on the thesis that she is an inseparable part of nature. In this thought experiment, no matter what choice she made, nature would regulate itself accordingly.
She connected deeply with it, reminding herself over and over again of the countless examples of how nature is perfectly connected. How everything serves the wholeness of nature at all times – without exception. She also became aware that her fear of making the wrong choice was rooted in her fear of rejection and suffering without comfort. Actually, she feared rejection because it meant disconnection, which in turn meant being alone.
After quite some time, she finally allowed herself to feel the connection and the strength of nature’s rhythm, she truly felt like a part of this wholeness—no matter the choices she made, the places she found herself in, or the experiences she had.
Once she could clearly feel that she was deeply connected with nature, her deeply rooted fear of separation lessened enormously.
Why can we choose?
So, why do we have a choice if it seemingly doesn’t matter what choice we make because we always serve the whole of nature, in one way or another?
It took her a while, but suddenly it dawned on her—it is not about the choice itself, but rather having a choice. Looking at what all can happen enables her to become aware of this connection and the flow, the natural rhythm of existence. Nature operates within this flow, and we, as humans, have the unique ability to be conscious of it. We can experience this connection, see how it works, and because of that, be conscious of our existence and how it is connected to all other parts of nature.
We all can experience freedom, joy, and gratitude in the awareness of this wonderful harmony of nature, of which we are inseparable parts. Instead of feeling disconnected and fearing possible sufferings, we can feel consciously a part of nature – not just naturally. We can know and feel that we are never separated, even when we are alone.
Taking a deep breath, the woman felt the strength and power that lie within this awareness. She realized that choice is not about making the right decision, but about being aware of the totality of the connection of all existence. It is about recognizing that she is a brilliant part of this intricate and magnificent system called nature. She understood that she didn’t need to strive for the right choice or worry about being in the wrong place. Nature, in all its wisdom, always finds its balance and meaning, even if she might not see it. She became aware that as a part of it, she will find her place naturally – always in the right place naturally. She did not have to look for it; she just needed to follow what she does naturally.
Just as she is – not only if she has a better connection with herself, more self-love, or listens better to her intuition or any other conditions she thought she needed to put on herself.
As she continued her thought project, she carried this newfound understanding with her. No longer burdened by doubts and uncertainties, she approached each moment with a sense of trust and surrender. She knew that wherever she found herself, she was exactly where she needed to be.
Oneness and awareness?
The woman realized that her place in the world was not limited to a physical location or people, but extended to a deep connection with the interconnected web of life. In that realization, she found peace, joy, and a profound sense of belonging.
And as she embraced her place within the larger whole, she knew that every choice she made, every experience she had, was a testament to her inherent oneness with nature.
Still with a gentle smile on her face, bathing in the certainty of nature she had already another question in mind that made her wonder… to be continued.
